1969
Durak Hazelnut was founded by the late Mr. Mehmet Ali Durak and his brothers as a 100% family company in Ünye district of Ordu. The first direct export to Germany was made in 1969 and the founder of the company, Mr. Mehmet Ali Durak, passed away in 1979. During this period, his son Mr. Hasan Basri Durak took over the management of the company. In 1991, the second hazelnut cracking facility was established in Terme/Samsun and organic raw hazelnut production began. In 2001, the third hazelnut cracking facility was established in Hendek/Sakarya in order to increase production diversity with Akçakoca type hazelnuts.
ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System Certificate was obtained in 2004 and in 2006, Cargill's Hazelnut Processing and Roasting Facility in Hendek/Sakarya was purchased and added to the high quality processed hazelnut product portfolio. During this process, various renovations were made in the roasting facility. In 2007, ISO 22000:2005 (Food Safety Management System Standard) HACCP certificate was received from TÜV RHEINLAND, and in 2008, BRC Level A certificate was received from the same company and organic raw and processed hazelnut production started (1200 tons/year).
In 2010, according to the records of the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, it became the 2nd largest hazelnut company and the 295th largest company in Turkey with TL 201,032,021,- and new systems were installed in the crushing facility in Hendek. In 2011, the production and storage capacity of the crushing facility in Terme/Samsun was increased by 35% and according to the records of the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, it became the 2nd largest hazelnut company and the 211th largest company in Turkey with TL 364,891,188,-. In 2012, ISO 14001 Environmental Management certificate was received from TÜV RHEINLAND and new production areas and lines were put into operation. In the same year, according to the records of the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, it became the 2nd largest hazelnut company and 242nd largest company in Turkey with TL 347,107,712.
In 2017, according to the records of the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, it became the largest hazelnut company and 190th largest company in Turkey with TL 802,000,000. The export amount was US$ 133,000,000. In 2018, the storage capacities of the facilities in Hendek/Sakarya were increased and according to the records of the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, it became the largest hazelnut company and 144th largest company in Turkey with TL 1,280,000,000. In the same year, the export amount was USD 119,800,000,- and BIO NATURLAND Organic certificate was obtained.
