1982
Merko is a tomato paste manufacturing company besides its juice and vegetable manufacturing facilitates. The company is a tomato processor that has become raw material in the global food business. Merko has become Turkey's largest processor-exporter. They founded the company in 1982 and have been proudly serving its clients and suppliers for the past 30 years.
Merko went public in 1994, and the firm is now controlled by the company's primary owners (Nomikos and Duncan Blake from Greece), with the remaining shares traded on the Istanbul Stock Exchange.
Merko produces tomato paste and chopped tomatoes for industrial use. Tepecik Factory manufactures these tomato paste and chopped tomatoes.
The firm is the leader in incorporating HACCP and Total Quality into all of its product lines. In-house training programs are held on a regular basis in collaboration with universities. Moreover, units in the group have successfully passed NFPA audits in the United States, BRC, and ISO 9001: 2000 audits in Europe and HACCP accreditation in the United Kingdom. In addition, the firm is at the forefront of GAP (Good Agricultural Practices) activities, notably in collaboration with Unilever, by delivering 100 percent sustainable goods to Unilever.
Until this day, the idea of behaving as a producer while thinking as a customer pervades the company's thinking. It contributes to the healthy relations between the two.
Merko's quality aim is to manufacture high-quality, safe goods that completely fulfill its customers' current and future expectations while remaining cost-effective. Hence, Merko's quality system ensures that all practices adhere to every appropriate legal regulation and management principle.
Merko has implemented a monitoring and registration process for all farmers and their fields. Additionally, it established the "Muddy Boot" program to monitor farmers and aid improve resource management. One of Merko's guiding principles is to adhere to all quality, hygienic, environmental, and safety laws. Meanwhile, its purpose is to provide the safest product possible by safeguarding human and environmental health from seed to consumer at all stages of the progressive food processing chain.
